It’s almost summer in New Orleans. That time of the year again where the kids want to be in the pool constantly, and we want our kids to be safe. So it is definitely a good time to consider swim lessons. Some of the schools listed in the guide offer year round lessons which make a great afterschool activity. That’s why we put together the 2018 Guide To Swim Lessons In New Orleans, so you can find the right lessons for your child.

Some of the swim schools listed in this guide have paid for their listings.

SELA Aquatics

SELA Aquatics offers private and semi-private swim lessons to the public at UNO Aquatic Center, Audubon Zoo’s Cool Zoo, and Chateau Country Club. Ages 3 and up, including adults. After you register for lessons at our website, our experienced, certified instructors will contact you to schedule your lessons at a time that is mutually convenient. Year-round lessons are available at UNO Aquatic Center.

“The indoor pool and the heated outdoor pool at UNO Aquatic Center make it easy to take lessons year round, no matter the weather!”

“My child had an amazing time learning to swim in the lazy river at Audubon Zoo. Such a unique experience with qualified, patient instructors.”

“During her summer lessons at Chateau Country Club, my child overcame her fear of water and has made great progress. She’s now comfortable in the water and loves to swim!”

Love Swimming

At Love Swimming, we have a passion for teaching students of all ages in a way that is fun and builds confidence. With safe, small classes, we strive to provide swimmers with a strong foundation for a lifetime of love and respect for the water. We believe that swimming is the best exercise for babies, kids and adults, and strive to teach in a way that always encourages individuals to explore beyond their fears and expectations. Our facility uses heated, salt-water pools to create an ideal learning environment where swimmers are always warm and comfortable. This is key to accelerating the learning process and developing strong safety skills. Our facilities also offer changing rooms, storage cubbies, and a shower room. And best of all, we are open all year round. Thanks to having an indoor facility, rain nor cold will stop your child from learning how to swim. Love Swimming began in 2002 after the founders taught hundreds to swim at Newman School in Uptown New Orleans. Soon families started bringing younger siblings to lessons, and though we made progress and loved teaching very young students, the cool water and the large pool created many obstacles for the little ones.

We attended a reputable Water Babies conference where we learned about above ground pools that can be heated and outfitted with salt water systems. This would make it easier on our swimmers’ hair, skin, and eyes. After locating a small office on Magazine Street whose owner allowed us to place a pool inside, we opened on Valentine’s Day 2002. Within a year or so, we outgrew the tiny space. We purchased a warehouse on South Front Street where we placed two pools and were able to teach multiple classes at once, making our lessons more convenient for families with more than one swimmer. We feel VERY grateful to ALL of our former and current students for believing in us and making our dreams come true at Love Swimming. Thank you! Thank you! We work diligently to ensure that our lessons are effective, safe, and FUN for students of all ages.

“At 3 years old, I wasn’t sure how ready Roscoe would be for swim lessons, but I am shocked by all of the amazing progress he has made in only 3 weeks! Not only is he wearing goggles, he is going under water, blowing bubbles, kicking, using his arms and floating. Roscoe loves to swim and be in the water now. He looks forward to every class and talks about his lessons every day. We can’t say enough about how grateful we are to Love Swimming!”

YMCA of Greater New Orleans

The YMCA offers a wide range of swimming options to improve swimming skills, build confidence in the water, and teach personal safety. The Y is credited for being first to develop a group swim instruction program in 1906. We have come a long way since that first group lesson, and we’re excited to present the latest upgrades to you. Students will learn water safety skills and build stroke technique, developing skills that prevent chronic disease, increase social-emotional and cognitive well-being, and foster a lifetime of physical activity. All lessons are conducted under the supervision of certified life guards and taught by nationally certified swim instructors trained in CPR, AED, First Aid and Oxygen Administration. Our new swim curriculum is based on extensive research, and is focused on the mastery of skills in a way that provides personalized attention and lets students set the pace. Our approach differs because it uses skill-based instruction, emphasizes safety, elevates character, and engages families.

The YMCA of Greater New Orleans is dedicated to putting Christian principles into practice through programs that build a healthy mind, body, and spirit for all. Every day, we work side by side with our neighbors to make sure that everyone, regardless of age, income, or background has the opportunity to learn, grow, and thrive.

“The swim lessons at the YMCA have helped my kids conquer their fear of water. Through the nurturing and skills of the swim instructors, my children learned life saving techniques and developed skills that they will continue to utilize time after time. They have actually developed a new love of the water that they never knew existed before swim lessons. We are very appreciative for the exposure they received through the swim lessons.”
