The Infinity Science Center in Gulfport, Mississippi on the Mississippi Gulf Coast is a great day trip from New Orleans and Pensacola! Located next to the Mississippi Welcome Center, Infinity also serves as the official NASA’s Stennis Space Center Visitor Center. Infinity Science Center is a non profit science museum with a mix of exhibit space and hands on experiential programing. Visiting will delight even the littlest explorer.
As you walk in, the Natrium includes an Engineering Workshop where you can design and build your own inventions.
There is also a Carnivorous Plants Conservatory. Our kids really enjoyed learning about and seeing all of the carnivorous plants.
Earth and Space Galleries
There were simulators and artifacts, video theaters, Smithsonian-loaned artifacts, and a life-sized, walk-through mockup of the International Space Station’s Destiny module. The Earth and Space Gallaries teach visitors about space exploration and Earth science.
We went on an exploration of the deep ocean and an interactive mission to repair broken oil rig. We tested and predicted the strength of hurricanes. We learned about waves, flooding, space suits, rockets, and so much more!
INFINITY’s 3D Theater
It has a state-of-the-art laser 3D projection system and surround sound audio. The current movie takes you on a 3D Journey through Space.
The Biome Boardwalk takes you to the largest attraction, the mighty Saturn V first stage booster and its five giant F-1 engines. This is the big attraction that you can see from the interstate as you pass by. It was very exciting to see up close!
Along the boardwalk, there are a few other outdoor exhibits. It is also a natural habitat so you may see wildlife along the way.
There are professional development workshops on a wide variety of science topics. Workshops are aligned to current standards.
One day workshops are held during the school year and there is a week-long option in June. CEUs are available.
Field trips and Science Exploration classes are offered for students.
