Everything We Know About Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge

I’m so excited and I just can’t hide it…. Today at the Walt Disney Company Shareholders meeting it was announced that Galaxy’s Edge aka Star Wars Land would be opening sooner than expected at both Walt Disney World Resort and Disneyland Parks. Here’s everything we know right now about this exciting new land (we will update this post as more information becomes available).

Galaxy’s Edge Opening Dates

Phase one of Galaxy’s Edge will open on May 31st at Disneyland Park in California and August 29th at Disney’s Hollywood Studios at Walt Disney World in Florida.

What Does The Phase One Opening Include?

Phase one will transport guest to the plant of Batuu which will be full of unique sights, sounds, smells and taste. You will be able to sample galactic food and beverages and explore an intriguing collection of merchant shops.

On opening day for phase one, guests will be transported to the remote planet of Batuu, full of unique sights, sounds, smells and tastes. Batuu is a destination along the galaxy’s Outer Rim on the frontier of Wild Space. It’s the home of the Black Spire Outpost which is the infamous port for smugglers, traders and adventurers. One you step on Batuu you will be part of the action as it unfolds around you. With the Play Disney Mobile Parks app you can choose to aid a smuggler, join the Resistance, or pledge your loyalty to the First Order. While there you may also encounter Rey, Finn, Poe, BB-8 and Chewie.

Also in phase one guest will be able to take control of the most famous ship in the galaxy, aboard Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run. This attraction will take guest into the cockpit and allow you to take the controls in one of three unique and critical roles ae you hurtle through space.  Some guest will be pilots, some gunners, and some flight engineers creating multiple ways to experience the attraction.

When Will Phase Two Open and What Will It Include ?

No announcement has been made on when phase two will open beyond later this year.

Phase two will include the attraction Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance which will be the most ambitious, immersive and advanced attraction ever! This attraction will put you in the middle of a climactic battle between the First Order and the Resistance. The journey will take you inside a full-sized starship and aboard a nearby Star Destroyer where you will have a faceoff with Kylo Ren.

What Food and Beverage Options Will Star Wars Land Have?

The food options for Star Wars Land are endless and look amazing. Blue milk anyone? You can get it at the Milk Stand. You can also get green milk there as well. Hmmm wonder what they taste like?

Love popcorn? Then you’ll love the Outpost Mix of uniquely flavored popcorn with a combination of sweet, savory and spicy flavors from Kat Saka’s Kettle. 

The blaster-bolt scorches on the wall tell a story at Oga’s Cantina. Here you can tell your own story while enjoying exotci beverages and lising to music by DJ R-3X aka Rex, the former Starspeeder 3000 pilot droid from the original Star Tours.

Chef Strono “Cookie” Tuggs has traveled the galaxy and filled his pantry with exotic ingredients to make new and unusual dishes at Docking Bay 7 Food and Cargo.

And in the Black Spire Outpost Market, guest will encounter a former smelter droid carefully turning the spit of meats for mouth watering Ronto Wraps as well as choose from an exotic non-alcoholic drinks like Sour Sarlacc and Tatooine Sunset at Ronto Roasters. 

Where Can I Shop In Galaxy’s Edge

In the market of Black Spire Outpost guest will encounter a collection of shops and stalls filled with authentic Star Wars creations.

In the Droid Depot, you will be invited to construct their own astromech droids. Picking pieces and parts off a conveyor belt, you will be able to build one of two core models (R-series or BB-series) and customized your droid with various parts and colors. The droids will be capable with interacting with elements in Star Wars Land and additional programming chips and accessories can be added for further customization. Droid Deposit will also offer pre-built droids and droid-inspired products.

Everyone wants a lightsaber right? I know I do! At Savi’s Workshop-Handbuilt Lightsabers, you will be able to customize and craft your very own lightsaber. How cool is that?

Looking for rare and mysterious items that represent the different eras of the Star Wars galaxy? Look no further than Dok-Ondar’s Den of Antiquities. Here you will find holocrons, ancient Jedi and Sith artifacts, lightsabers and more. Say hi to Dok, he’ll be at his desk checking his inventory, taking incoming calls and barking the occasional order at his assistants.

Also in the Black Spire Outpost Market you will find the following shops/stalls:

  • Creature Stall which wis dedicated to the rare and fascinating creatures that populate the galaxy.
  • Black Spire Outfitters which will showcase the latest accessories
  • Toydardian Toymaker which will be full of toys crafted by a Toydarian.

Guest can also demonstrate where their loyalties lie. If you’re part of the Resistance, then you should hide over to Resistance Supply where you will find bins, badges, hats and other accessories. Guest pledging their allegiance to the First Order will want to visit First Order Cargo where they will find a never-before-seen First Order TIE echelon, as well as pins, caps, gear, model ships and more.

How Do I Get Into Galaxy’s Edge?

After learning about everything Galaxy’s Edge has to offer, you have to visit!

If you are planning to visit Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Disneyland Park between May 31st and June 23rd you will need a valid theme park ticket and will be required to make a no-cost reservation, subject to availability, to access the land. Information on how to make the reservation will be released at a later date. Guest staying at one of the three Disneyland Hotels during these days will receive a designated reservation to to access the land during their stay. Only one reservation per registered guest and a valid theme park admission is required. The land will be open during regular park hours but will not be included in Extra Magic Hours or Magic Morning. Also Disney Max Pass will not initially be offered for Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run.

If you are planning to visit Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Disney’s Hollywood Studios at Walt Disney Resort, you will need a valid theme park ticket. Galaxy’s Edge will be open during regular park hours and during Extra Magic Hours. There will not initially be any FastPass+ available for Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run

Please remember that vacation packages, park tickets and Disney resort hotel stays do not guarantee admission into Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge. Access will be subjected to capacity restraints and other restrictions.
